Detroit based artist, singer/songwriter, and art therapist, Karianne Spens-Hanna’s practice is driven by her interest in entropy and humanity’s interconnections to the environment. Her art and music examine the degradation of matter and energy, and exists within a liminal space between contentment and unease. Using judiciously restricted sounds and palettes, and her intuitive process, she pushes against social constructs and perception to develop alluringly evocative imagery and songs. Her studies around psychology, various healing modalities, anatomy, and physiology also inform her practice.
Spens-Hanna graduated with honors from College for Creative Studies, receiving a BFA specializing in painting, drawing, and sculpture. She received her M.Ed in Art Therapy at Wayne State University.
